Summer, Reading and Baseball!

I loved summer as a kid and I still do now for many of the same reasons. Growing up, the best parts of summer for me were playing baseball and having extra free time to read great books.

As a kid and now as an adult, both baseball and books have inspired me, taught me lessons and given me great enjoyment. Reading helps keep my mind sharp; it stimulates and captivates and it also helps me relax. There are so many great benefits to reading and that's why I am thrilled that the Nationals are again partnering with the DC Public Library for Summer Reading.

I encourage you to read as much as you can this summer. In fact, if you read at least eight hours this summer my teammates and I will give you two free tickets to one of our games at Nationals Park.

This year's summer reading theme is "Every Hero Has a Story." I encourage you to use this summer to learn about all different kinds of heroes, to find your favorite stories and enjoy Nationals baseball!
