Education Outreach

Educational efforts

The Washington Nationals continue to work with local schools and literacy organizations to enhance educational efforts around the city. Aside from its relationship with "adopted" school, Kimball Elementary, the Nationals have strengthened their relationship with Amidon-Bowen Elementary and other DC schools.

The Nationals look forward to expanding their efforts in DC, Maryland and Virginia during the 2010-11 academic year.

Literacy

Educational efforts

Everybody Wins!

The Nationals have built the foundation for a strong partnership with Everybody Wins! DC, a local literacy and mentoring non-profit. A number of Nationals employees have volunteered for the Power Lunch program at Amidon-Bowen Elementary School. Employees spend one hour a week reading with a select student at Amidon-Bowen throughout the school year.

Reading Is Fundamental

The Nationals, together with RIF, help raise awareness for children's literacy by partnering with them to donate books to schools and other organizations in need. RIF is one of the nation's oldest and largest children and family literacy non-profits.

Educational efforts

Heart of America Foundation

The Nationals also partner with the Heart of America Foundation to provide the tools and motivation to keep children reading. Most recently, the Heart of America Foundation donated books to the Unity Health Clinic in Southwest DC as part of the Nationals Winter Caravan.

School Partners

DC Publick Schools Systems

DC Public School Systems

Continuing their great relationship with DCPS, the Nationals work closely with adopted school Kimball Elementary as well as many other area schools to promote the importance of education. DCPS and the Nationals are working together to identify schools in need to offer encouragement and incentives to their students.

Back to School Drives

In 2009, the Nationals collected more than 5,000 school supplies, all of which were donated to DCPS and Howard Road Academy.
