Travis Fryman begins his seventh season in the Indians Player Development system and his second as a Special Assistant to Baseball Operations. Fryman spent the 2011 and 2012 campaigns as the organization's minor league Infield Coordinator after managing Short-A Mahoning Valley for three seasons from 2008-10. He took the Scrappers to the New York Penn League finals in 2009.

Fryman, 45, retired in 2002 following a 16-year playing career that saw him spend parts of 13 seasons at the Major League level with the Detroit Tigers (1990-97) and Cleveland Indians (1998-2002). He compiled a .274 batting average with 223 HR and 1,022 RBI over 1,698 career games, earning the A.L. Silver Slugger Award at shortstop in 1992. Fryman was selected to five A.L. All-Star teams (1992-94, 1996, 2000) and represented the Tribe as the league's starting third baseman in the 2000 Mid-Summer Classic. He was also honored with a Rawlings Gold Glove that same season, while batting a career-best .321 with 22 HR and 106 RBI.

Travis and his wife, Kathleen, reside in Molino, Fla., with their three sons: Mason, Branden and Cole.
