John Patterson was pitching well toward his first victory of the season, and then he ran into Ryan Howard. The reigning MVP drove a Patterson offering over the right-field wall for his third home run of the season, giving the Phillies a 3-0 lead they would not relinquish.

The Phillies continued their winning ways on Wednesday in convincing fashion, featuring all facets of their potent offense. Ryan Howard and Jimmy Rollins each went deep and Chase Utley went 5-for-5 in the victory. Jon Lieber pitched six strong innings for his first win of the season.
