In his first big-league start, Micah Owings tossed five shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out six for the win. His final whiff was the biggest, as he fanned Ryan Zimmerman with the bases loaded to end the fifth. Chris Young hit a three-run homer and Chad Tracy added an RBI triple.

In his 2007 debut, right-hander Jerome Williams kept the Nationals in it early, but he faltered in the sixth, when he gave up a three-run long ball to put the home team in a big hole. Meanwhile, Washington's offense collected just one run on Ryan Church's two-out home run in the ninth.
