Fueled by leadoff man Hanley Ramirez's four hits, the Marlins had plenty of offense to back Dontrelle Willis' Opening Day effort at RFK Stadium. Ramirez scored four times and stole two bases; Miguel Cabrera homered and had four RBIs. Willis gave up one run over six innings.
Dmitri Young doubled in a run in the sixth inning as the Nats tried to recover from an early deficit, but Florida's Dontrelle Willis quieted the storm. Washington starter John Patterson labored early and was forced out in the fourth inning after 80 pitches.
