R.A. Dickey appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Tuesday, where he revealed the surprising way he received the power to win the NL Cy Young in 2012. The knuckleballer was inspired to scale the Tanzanian peak in January after reading Hemingway's The Snows of Kilimanjaro. Dickey told Stewart he "thought there might be a potion up there I could drink to come back and be a Cy Young Award winner, so I did it."
Other topics covered in the interview included Dickey's book Wherever I Wind Up, how the knuckle-curve doesn't deserve to be discussed in the same breath with the pure knuckleball and what it was like convening with Tim Wakefield, Charlie Hough and Phil Niekro, or, as Dickey called them, the "Jedi Council" of knucklers.
