Nats agree to terms with three of top five picks

WASHINGTON -- The Nationals agreed to terms with three of their top five picks from the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, director of scouting Kris Kline said on Thursday.

Second-round pick (No. 80 overall) Anthony Renda, a second baseman from the University of California, will report to short-season Class A Auburn after agreeing on his contract.

The other two players to sign were Samford outfielder Brandon Miller (fourth round, No. 144 overall) and Clemson catcher Spencer Kieboom (fifth round, No. 174 overall).

Kline added that Washington general manager Mike Rizzo will handle contract negotiations with the team's first-round pick, right-hander Lucas Giolito (No. 16 overall) from Harvard-Westlake (Calif.) High School.

"Other than that, it's the day after the storm," Kline said.
