Coffey unsure if he'll return to Nationals

Free-agent reliever hopes to chat with Nats GM this week

DALLAS -- Free-agent reliever Todd Coffey said Sunday he is not sure where he will pitch next year. This past season, he had a respectable 3.62 ERA in 69 games for the Nationals.

Coffey, 31, hopes to have a conversation with Nats general manager Mike Rizzo during the Winter Meetings this week to see where he stands with the club.

Asked what the chances are of him returning to Washington, Coffey said, "In my heart of hearts, if it's the right contract, I would look to definitely come back to the Nationals."

Coffey declined to say if other teams were interested in his services, but a baseball source indicated there are two teams in the National League East and NL Central and three teams in the American League West that have showed interest in the right-hander.
