Nationals release reliever Bruney
By Bill Ladson / MLB.com
The Nationals had several days to work out a trade but didn't receive any offers for Bruney.
On March 17, the Nationals designated Bruney for assignment. The veteran right-hander had allowed 15 earned runs and walked 20 batters in 17 2/3 innings.
Bruney, 28, reiterated that he still considers himself a Major Leaguer. He is hoping his three-plus years with the Yankees will help him land another job.
"We are going to wait and see if there are any offers," Bruney said via telephone. "I pitched pretty good during the time I was [with the Yankees]. I got off to a rough start with the Nationals and I tried to do a little too much. Hopefully teams are going to go off three and a half years [with the Yankees] instead of a month and a half with the Nationals.
