During the streak, Zimmerman is hitting .316 (26-for-76) with four home runs and 14 RBIs. Zimmerman held the previous record of 17 from June 17-July 18, 2006.
In the sixth inning, facing Phils right-hander Brett Myers, Zimmerman doubled to left-center field to extend the streak. Zimmerman scored on a single by Elijah Dukes to give Washington a 2-1 lead. For the game, Zimmerman went 1-for-4.
"As far as that [hitting streak], I don't really think about that stuff. I'm trying to put good at-bats together. If I get a hit, I get a hit. I go with that," Zimmerman said. "Me being on base, driving guys in and scoring runs, I'm more happy about that than anything else."
In his first three full seasons with the Nationals, Zimmerman got off to a slow start each year. In fact, he has a .237 career average during the first month of the season.
But this year is a different story. Entering Thursday night's game against the Cardinals at Nationals Park, Zimmerman is hitting .291 with four runs and 14 RBIs.
"I'm just happy that I'm having a decent April -- off to a better start than I usually get off to," Zimmerman said.
