Flores takes batting practice

Nats' catcher swings pain-free; will bat again Friday

VIERA, Fla. -- Nationals catcher Jesus Flores took batting practice on Thursday for the first time since hurting his right elbow in early March.

Flores was hitting line drives all over the place at Space Coast Stadium and didn't feel any pain in the elbow. Flores will take batting practice again on Friday. There is no timetable as to when Flores will play in a game, but manager Manny Acta said early this week that the team will make a determination by Monday.

"I don't feel anything in my elbow. I'm going to start working on my timing and rhythm," Flores said. "It's hard for me to say when I will play in a game, but I know it's close."

Flores, 24, hasn't played in a game since Feb. 28 against the Cardinals.
