Young day-to-day after plunking

Nationals first baseman injured Sunday in bunting mishap

VIERA, Fla. -- An X-ray of Dmitri Young's left hand on Monday showed no fractures. The first baseman has a left ring finger contusion and is listed as day-to-day.

On Sunday, Young, 35, was attempting to bunt when a ball from the pitching machine hit two of his fingers.

Young, who will make $5 million in 2009, is not on the Nationals' 40-man roster, but is trying to make the team as a reserve.

After representing Washington in the 2007 All-Star Game, Young battled injuries in '08 and played in just 50 games, hitting .280 with four homers.
