Trade rumors swirl about Belliard

Second baseman reportedly generating intrest from Dodgers

WASHINGTON -- Blog reports indicated on Thursday that the Nationals are in trade discussions with the Dodgers, who are looking to acquire infielder Ronnie Belliard.

That would mean Los Angeles claimed him on waivers and Washington pulled him back. In that case, the two clubs would have 48 hours to make a deal.

However, an industry source familiar with both parties said Nationals general manager Jim Bowden and Dodgers GM Ned Colletti have not spoken at all this week.

It's common knowledge around baseball circles that the Dodgers have coveted Belliard since before the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline.

Belliard is currently a backup for the Nationals this season. In 77 games, Belliard is hitting .240 with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs.
