Nationals to honor Robinson at home
Washington to hold pregame ceremony for baseball legend
By Bill Ladson / MLB.com
The Nationals will recognize Robinson's contributions to the game with a video and pregame ceremony. Nationals players Ray King, Willie Harris and Lastings Milledge will don Robinson's number 42. Last week, the entire team wore Robinson's uniform number at Shea Stadium on the anniversary of Robinson breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball.
Throughout the game on Wednesday, the scoreboard will feature trivia and facts on Robinson's career. Robinson broke baseball's color barrier and brought the Negro Leagues' electrifying style of play to the big leagues in 1947.
Robinson quickly became one of the game's top draws, most daring baserunner and a symbol of hope to millions of Americans. Playing the role of catalyst, the Brooklyn Dodgers won six pennants in Robinson's 10 seasons. He was named National League MVP in 1949.
