The Washington Nationals and National Cherry Blossom Festival have joined together to create the perfect match for spring in the District - baseball and cherry blossoms. The National Cherry Blossom Festival is an annual two-week event that celebrates springtime in Washington, DC as well as the 1912 gift of the cherry blossom trees and the enduring friendship between the people of the United States and Japan.

"The blooming of the cherry blossoms and the crack of the bat have come to signify the start of Spring in Washington," said Nationals President Stan Kasten. "The Nationals are excited to take part in the National Cherry Blossom Festival, a long-standing tradition in the District celebrating the beginning of new seasons - Spring and baseball."

The Nationals exhibition game vs. the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, April 3, and regular-season contests vs. the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, April 7 and Thursday, April 8, have been deemed official Festival events. Each of these games will feature National Cherry Blossom themed activities, including participation in the "Starting 9" on April 3 and feature Festival performances in the Center Field Plaza prior to the game on April 7. A representative from the Festival has been invited to start the game on April 8 with the Nationals traditional "Play Ball" announcement. Additionally, Nationals Mascot "Screech" and the GEICO Racing Presidents will be featured in the National Cherry Blossom Parade on Saturday, April 10, one of the Festival's signature events.

Nationals individual and season tickets are currently on sale for all games at Nationals Park in 2010 - including the April 3 exhibition game vs. the Boston Red Sox at 25% off regular ticket prices.
