The Washington Nationals today recalled outfielder/infielder Kory Casto from Columbus of the Triple-A International League and designated infielder D'Angelo Jimenez for assignment. Nationals Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden made the announcement.
Casto, 25, hit .324 (12-for-37) with three doubles, four home runs and six RBI in 10 games with Columbus since being optioned to Triple-A on April 17. Casto, who entered the 2007 season rated as the Nationals' No. 4 prospect per Baseball America, began the season with Columbus, but was recalled prior to the season's second game, April 3 vs. Florida, when outfielder Nook Logan was placed on the 15-day DL with a left foot strain. Casto was riding a six-game hitting streak, during which he batted .375 (9-for-24) with three home runs and five RBI, upon being summoned by Washington.
Jimenez, 29, went 1-for-14 (.071) with two walks and two sacrifice hits in 17 games with the Nationals.
