The Washington Nationals today named former major league infielder Lenny Harris as Minor League roving infield instructor.

Harris hit .269 with 161 doubles, 21 triples, 37 home runs, 369 RBI and 131 stolen bases in 1903 games spanning 18 major league seasons with Cincinnati, Los Angeles (NL), New York (NL), Colorado, Arizona, Milwaukee, Chicago (NL) and Florida. Four times, Harris participated in the post-season. He won a World Championship ring with Florida in 2003. Harris played all four infield positions during his career, including 485 games at third base.

Harris, 41, is perhaps best known as baseball's all-time leader in pinch hits. His career total of 212 pinch hits is nearly 50 percent more than that of Greg Gross, who ranks second on the same list with 143. From 1999-2002, Harris became the first player in baseball history to string together four consecutive seasons with 15 or more pinch hits. Harris' 90 pinch-hit RBI rank third on the all-time list.
