A perfect month of closing out games for the National League East-leading Nationals earned reliever Tyler Clippard the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Month honors for the month of June.
The right-hander converted each of his 10 save opportunities without allowing a single run last month, highlighted by his three saves in as many days as the Nats swept the Red Sox at Fenway Park from June 8-10.
Clippard conceded just two hits over his 12 appearances, totaling 11 2/3 innings. Starting with the finale in Boston, Clippard turned in six consecutive hitless outings, and notched 10 strikeouts during that span.
Since assuming the Nats' closer role on May 22, the 27-year-old reliever has converted each of his 13 save chances, while working 15 1/3 scoreless innings.
Clippard lowered his ERA by more than a run during the month of June, dropping it from 2.91 to 1.89.
