Konerko holding firm in All-Star balloting
White Sox first baseman trails Tigers' Prince Fielder
CHICAGO -- Paul Konerko continues his stronghold in the American League batting title race, with his .359 average entering Monday putting him 29 points ahead of Josh Hamilton, 38 ahead of Mark Trumbo and 44 ahead of Prince Fielder.
But Konerko is going to need the help of White Sox fans to catch Fielder in the American League All-Star voting at first base.
The latest round of voting released Monday show Konerko with 1,680,793 votes, leaving him 265,252 behind Fielder's total of 1,946,045. A.J. Pierzynski holds steady in fourth among catchers with 1,048,603, trailing Mike Napoli (2,239,047), while Adam Dunn once again sits fourth at designated hitter with a vote total of 979,447. Dunn trails David Ortiz, who checks in at 2,390,132.
Fans can cast their votes for starters up to 25 times at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- online or via your mobile device -- using the 2012 All-Star Game MLB.com Ballot until Thursday, June 28, at 10:59 p.m. CT.
Fans can also once again participate in the State Farm Home Run Derby Fan Poll. Fans will have the opportunity to select three players in each league who they would most like to see participate in the State Farm Home Run Derby. The 2012 State Farm Home Run Derby -- part of Gatorade All-Star Workout Day -- will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN HD, ESPN Deportes and ESPN Radio in the United States beginning at 7 p.m. CT on Monday, July 9.
The 2012 American League and National League All-Star teams will be unveiled on Sunday, July 1 on the 2012 MLB All-Star Game Selection Show, televised nationally on TBS. Baseball fans around the world will then be able to select the final player on each team via the 2012 All-Star Game Final Vote on MLB.com.
And the voting doesn't end there. The final phase of All-Star Game voting will again have fans participating in the official voting for the Ted Williams All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet. During the Midsummer Classic, fans will vote exclusively online at MLB.com via the 2012 All-Star Game MLB.com MVP Vote, and their voice will represent 20 percent of the official vote determining the recipient.

Konerko's average is not the only statistical category where he ranks at the top in the AL, as his .435 on-base percentage also bests all competitors. Konerko leads all AL first basemen in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS.
Pierzynski leads all big-league catchers with his 40 RBIs and is tied for second with his 11 homers. The left-handed hitter also tops all AL catchers with his .500 slugging percentage.
Dunn went into Monday's series opener against the Cubs as the Major League leader with 23 homers. He's tied for second in the AL with nine game-winning RBIs.
