Nats' Young takes leave of absence
First baseman given time off to tend to ailing mother
WASHINGTON -- Nationals first baseman Dmitri Young has taken a leave of absence to be with his mother, who is gravely ill. Washington told Young to take all the time he needed to be with his mother, and Young did not offer a timetable as to when he will return to the field.
Young's younger brother, Delmon, has been placed on the family medical emergency list by the Twins. Delmon will be away from the team from three to seven days, as stipulated by rules of the special list.
Once he returns to the team, Dmitri most likely will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse. Young has spent most of the season in extended Spring Training.
