Washington also optioned outfielder Roger Bernadina and catcher Luke Montz to Triple-A Syracuse.
The Nationals are loaded with outfielders and Bernadina and Langerhans were long shots to make the team from the start. Both players understood the situation and were seen packing their bags for Minor League camp.
"I'm a little disappointed, but I understand the numbers game and the way things are set up," Langerhans said.
Orr didn't see a lot of time because he was representing Canada at the World Baseball Classic. He said he doesn't have any regrets about being away from camp for a few weeks.
"There is risk and rewards in everything you do," Orr said. "To have that opportunity to play for Canada, I had to give up something here."
Eldred was a pleasant surprise for the Nationals, hitting .300 with three and six RBIs, but he was behind Nick Johnson, Adam Dunn and Josh Willingham on the depth chart at first base.
Montz's eyes were welling after receiving the bad news, but he vowed he would not give up and return to the big leagues. Montz was looking for a backup role behind the plate, but fell behind Wil Nieves and Javier Valentin on the depth chart.
"I'm going to work hard every day," Montz said. "It's not the best news you want to hear. I'm still young and I'm not going to give up."
Chacin gave up gave up five runs in 9 2/3 innings this spring. Manager Manny Acta told him go to Triple A Syracuse and show that he is healthy. Chacin missed a lot of time last season because of knee problems.
"I'm OK with the decision," Chacin said. "I want to show that I'm healthy and get my strength back."
After Thursday's moves, the Nationals' spring roster stands at 41.
