Ryan Zimmerman worked -- and waited. After almost two months of rest, rehab and strength work on his left shoulder, the Nationals third baseman finally got back into a live game.

He certainly got his at-bats.

Out of action since May 25, Zimmerman started at the designated hitter spot for Class A Potomac on Monday night in Salem, Va.

Zimmerman wasted little time putting his mark on the game, sending a double to center field with two outs in the first inning. He grounded out to short in the third, and then doubled again to begin the fifth, scoring on a Francisco Plasencia single in the next at-bat.

The Nationals' franchise third baseman grounded out to third base in his next two at-bats as Potomac fell to Salem, 8-6. Zimmerman will wrap up his stint with Potomac tomorrow in Salem, and then head to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.
