WASHINGTON -- Chone Figgins will be spelling "dogs" a little bit differently for the next few hours.

"D-A-W-G-S," said the Angels' third baseman.

Such was the way of avowed University of Georgia fans all across the country on Wednesday night, and Figgins was no different. The Leary, Ga., native signed with the Bulldogs out of Brandon (Fla.) High School, though he opted to forgo college and sign a professional contract.

Still, that hasn't deterred the fleet-footed Figgins from making known his allegiances for the College World Series -- he's worn the same Georgia Bulldogs shirt to the clubhouse the last two days.

Figgins said he was sorry to see Georgia lose on Tuesday night. He said his Bulldogs walked too many batters and didn't get enough first strikes over to be effective.

Yet Figgins expressed confidence that Wednesday's starter, Nathan Morneau, would finish the job in Omaha.

"[Morneau's] been clutch all year," Figgins said. "He's been pitching big games, and that's something you like out of a starter going into your championship games."
