WASHINGTON -- The Nationals activated infielder Ronnie Belliard from the 15-day disabled list and optioned right-hander Tyler Clippard to Triple-A Columbus on Monday.

Belliard, who brings high energy to the club, is expected to see a lot of action at third and second base. He was on a rehab assignment. Belliard went 0-for-12 for Double-A Harrisburg and 0-for-3 for Class A Potomac on Monday.

Belliard had been on the disabled list since May 19 because of a left calf strain.

Clippard pitched for the Nationals on Monday and took the loss, allowing three runs in 4 1/3 innings against the Giants.
