Nats keep it close, but fall to Tigers

Tigers at the plate: In the first inning, Placido Polanco scored the first run of the game on an RBI single by Magglio Ordonez. Miguel Cabrera drove in the Tigers' second run with a single. Dane Sardinha added a home run off right-hander Jesus Colome. Carlos Guillen was the only member of the Tigers to collect multiple hits.
Nationals at the plate: Dmitri Young scored all the way from first base on a double by Paul Lo Duca, and Ryan Zimmerman smacked his fourth home run of the spring. The Nationals totaled eight hits in the game.
Tigers on the mound: Left-hander Nate Robertson pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up one run on four hits. He struck out three and walked two. Right-hander Aquilino Lopez held the Nationals scoreless over 1 2/3 innings in relief.
Nationals on the mound: Right-hander Jason Bergmann pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up three runs -- two earned - - on seven hits. Righty Joel Hanrahan pitched 1 1/3 innings and struck out a batter.
Grapefruit League records: Tigers 12-12-1, Nationals 10-16-2.
Up next for the Nationals: The Nats travel to Jupiter, Fla., to play the Cardinals on Tuesday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. ET. Left-hander Odalis Perez will face Cardinals righty Anthony Reyes. The last time these two teams met was on March 5, with the Nationals defeating the Cardinals, 6-5.
Up next for the Tigers: The Tigers head to Lakeland Fla., to play the Astros on Tuesday afternoon. Game time is 6:05 p.m. ET, and will feature Justin Verlander against Houston's Chris Sampson.
