WASHINGTON -- Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman had surgery to remove a fractured bone from his left wrist Wednesday evening at Sibley Hospital. Zimmerman was discharged shortly after undergoing the procedure, performed by Dr. Richard Barth.

Zimmerman will be in a splint for approximately one week, when he'll also have sutures removed and begin a light rehab almost immediately. Zimmerman is expected to fully recover in four to six weeks.

Zimmerman, 23, hurt the hand Sunday while taking batting practice. An examination revealed the fractured hamate bone, a small bone in the wrist commonly fractured by baseball players.

In other news, the Nationals will display the playing surface at Nationals Park on Tuesday. Team president Stan Kasten will also be on hand to share information about the seat relocation process for season-ticket holders.
