
Magrane was an inaugural member of the Rays broadcast team, working as color analyst from the team's inception in 1998 until 2009. He also did commentary for FOX baseball and NBC during their 2000, 2004 and 2008 Olympic baseball coverage. In 2002, he served as a postgame reporter for the NLCS on FOX.
A 1985 All-America selection at the University of Arizona, Magrane enjoyed a 10-year Major League career, compiling a 56-67 record and 3.81 ERA with the Cardinals (1987-93), Angels (1993-95), and White Sox (1996). Magrane finished third in NL Rookie of the Year voting in 1987, en route to a Cardinals pennant. He won the NL ERA title in 1988 and won 18 games in 1989, placing third in the NL Cy Young voting.
