Notable Deals
    • Ryan Dempster
    • Christian Villaneuva
    • Kyle Hendricks

July 31 -- Dempster, one of the trade season's biggest chips, went all the way to the wire before reaching a resolution. The Cubs sent Dempster to Texas -- agreeing moments before the deadline -- for a package that consisted of Minor League prospects. Dempster had been rumored for several days to be headed for the Dodgers and was reported to be unwilling to waive his 10-and-5 no-trade veto rights to go anywhere else. But the Cubs and Dodgers were unable to work out a deal and Dempster agreed to join Texas.

July 31 -- The Phillies continued the demolition of their Opening Day outfield by trading Pence to the Giants. Philadelphia dealt both Shane Victorino and Pence in the hours leading up to the deadline. Victorino, originally drafted by the Dodgers in 1999, will help round out the Los Angeles outfield alongside Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier. Martin, a first-round draftee in 2008, is 8-6 with a 3.58 ERA for Double-A Chattanooga.

July 31 -- The Reds augmented one of the league's best bullpens by picking up prized reliever Jonathan Broxton from the Royals in exchange for prospects Donnie Joseph and J.C. Sulbaran. Broxton posted a 2.27 ERA with Kansas City and will give Cincinnati another experienced arm in the late innings. Joseph, a reliever, and Sulbaran -- a starter -- are both well-regarded arms.

    • 2013 competitive balance Draft pick

July 31 -- The Marlins dealt Gaby Sanchez -- an All-Star last season -- to Pittsburgh on Tuesday in exchange for prospect Gorkys Hernandez and the Pirates' competitive balance pick next season. • Jacob Brigham

July 31 -- The Rangers added to their catching depth, getting Soto from the Cubs in exchange for Jacob Brigham, who went 5-5 with a 4.28 ERA in 21 starts at Double-A Frisco. Spending his entire career with the Cubs, who selected him in the 11th round of the 2001 Draft, Soto has begun to hit his stride at the plate. He's batting .264 (14-for-53) with one home run, five RBIs and eight runs scored in the month of July.

    • Travis Snider
    • Brad Lincoln

July 30 -- In a swap of first-round picks from the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, Snider heads to Pittsburgh, where the Bucs hope he can live up to the massive promise he showed coming through the Minors. In return, Toronto gets Lincoln, who has been working as a reliever -- with tremendous success -- but he can also pitch out of the rotation if needed.

    • Eric Thames
    • Steve Delabar

July 30 -- Thames' star has lost some luster this year, after he struggled for two months in the Major Leagues, then was sent to Triple-A Las Vegas. He's done nothing but hit in the Pacific Coast League, batting .335 with six homers. Delabar gives the Jays a solid right-handed arm out of their bullpen, which will help them reshape their relief corps after some devastating injuries.

    • Leon Landry
    • Logan Bawcom

July 30 -- The Dodgers in League get a power arm to help them shorten games. The Cubs in return received Minor League right-handers Vizcaino and Chapman. The Braves hope Maholm plugs the leaky back of their rotation, while Johnson can play all three outfield positions and hits right-handed.

    • Francisco Liriano
    • Eduardo Escobar
    • Pedro Hernandez

July 28 -- Which Francisco Liriano did the White Sox acquire? If it's the one that returned May 30 from a stint in the bullpen, Chicago will have a significant upgrade to its starting rotation. Since that point, Liriano owns a 3.68 ERA, 79 strikeouts and 29 walks in 66 innings. The 28-year-old lefty was 0-5 with a 9.45 ERA in six starts before the Twins demoted him to a relief role.

    • Zack Greinke
    • Jean Segura
    • John Hellweg
    • Ariel Pena

July 27 -- The Angels took a major gamble in order to dramatically upgrade their starting rotation, dealing three well-regarded young players for Greinke, who is due to reach free agency at season's end. The former AL Cy Young winner enhances the Angels' chances of overcoming the Rangers in the West but came at a steep price. Segura, the team's top prospect, joins two Double-A pitchers headed to Milwaukee.

They also added Choate, one of the game's more reliable southpaw relievers in recent years. Miami continued its roster shakeup in light of an inability to meet club expectations after an offseason in which the Marlins added several noteworthy free agents and opened a new ballpark. Los Angeles sent Miami a pair of promising 22-year-old right-handers in return.

    • D.J. Mitchell
    • Danny Farquhar

    • Rob Rasmussen

July 4 -- After nearly being sent to the Dodgers, Lee takes his potent bat to Miami, which has been searching for additional run support. • Jim Thome
    • Gabriel Lino
    • Kyle Simon

June 30 -- Adding depth to a roster decimated by injuries to several lefty bats, Thome's addition not only gives the upstart O's a powerful bat, but also veteran leadership. Thome's inability to play the field made him expendable to the Phils, who netted a pair of prospects in the deal.
