Washington Nationals Celebrate Fathers Day
06/16/2010 12:56 PM ET

The Washington Nationals will celebrate Father's Day throughout their weekend series against the Chicago White Sox with the following community initiatives and fan promotions:

SATURDAY, JUNE 19:

  • Father of the Year Essay Contest Celebration: Administered by the National Center for Fathering, this contest was open to all District children who nominated their fathers or men who serve as father-figures. Submissions were judged by a panel earlier this year and the grand-prize winner will be honored during the June 19 pregame ceremony. Nominated dads will also take part in pregame activities including the Starting 9 and "Play Ball!" announcement.
  • Fan Giveaway: The first 15,000 fans to attend Saturday's game will receive Ryan Zimmerman Gold Glove/ Silver Slugger bobbleheads courtesy of PNC Bank.
  • Game Time Notice: Please note the start time has been changed to 4:10 p.m. It will be an 'MLB on Fox' game.

SUNDAY, JUNE 20:

  • Prostate Cancer Foundation: For the sixth consecutive season, the Nationals and MLB have partnered with the Prostate Cancer Foundation to heighten awareness for prostate cancer and support its eventual eradication. Nationals players and on-field personnel will don blue wristbands and blue ribbon logos on their uniforms during Sunday's game.
  • PCF Home Run Challenge: Fans can also visit www.prostatecancerfoundation.org to make a pledge for each home run hit during 60 select MLB games through June 20, including all games played on Father's Day. Funds raised go directly toward prostate cancer research.
  • Father's Day Tie Drive: The Nationals will collect new and gently worn ties at the Nationals Park Center Field Gates beginning at 11:00 a.m. through the fourth inning. The ties will be donated to Career Gear, a nonprofit that serves disconnected and underserved men in the D.C. community.
  • Additional Promotions Honoring Dads:
    • Travel Mug giveaway presented by MASN HD for the first 20,000 fans
    • Starting 9 will feature scouts and their dads
    • Military recognition will honor military dads
    • Kids Run The Bases will expand to include both fathers and their children
    • Postgame father-son catch will be held on the field
