The Washington Nationals today reinstated shortstop Cristian Guzman from the 15-Day Disabled List. Nationals Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden made the announcement. Guzman, 29, hit .329 (57-for-173) with six doubles, six triples, two homers and 14 RBI in 43 games with Washington before sustaining a torn ligament in his left thumb while tagging Cleveland's Josh Barfield out on a stolen-base attempt on June 24 at RFK Memorial Stadium. Guzman, who sported a career-best .382 on-base percentage prior to the injury, had surgery to repair the ligament on June 25. Guzman is a career .263 hitter with 167 doubles, 73 doubles, 45 home runs and 334 RBI in 1,026 big league games with Minnesota (1999-2004) and Washington (2005-present). This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
