The Cubs and Chicago Cubs Charities are committed to improving the health of Chicago's inner city children. To help address the increasing obesity problem and to promote fitness overall, Chicago Cubs Charities developed the Cubs on the Move Fitness Trolley to promote a fitness plan and healthy eating campaign, and encourage kids to "Play Every Day." The mission of the Cubs on the Move Fitness Trolley is to get kids active and healthy.
In 2013, more than 300 children from four schools across the city of Chicago participated in the Cubs on the Move Fitness Trolley, which motivates youth to "Play Every Day." The students participated in group exercise led by Chicago Athletic Clubs and learned basic baseball skills through Cubs non-profit partner, Urban Initiatives at four select elementary schools: Tarkington School in Marquette Park, Gunsaulus School in Brighton Park, Otis Elementary in West Town and Lloyd School in Cragin using the Cubs Trolley for transportation, music and activation. Cubs on the Move Fitness Trolley participants received water from Aquafina and a nutritious snack every visit supplied by Testa Produce.
The Cubs on the Move Fitness Trolley brought together Cubs Associates, Cubs corporate partners, Cubs philanthropic partners, Cubs ownership and Cubs players to impact the health of kids in the Chicago community.
Kids who followed the Cubs on the Move Fitness Trolley plan and monitored their exercise schedule through weekly fitness logs were rewarded with a trip to a Cubs game and honored on Wrigley Field prior to a game.
